The highly-awaited Season 2 of the musical adult cartoon Hazbin Hotel debuts on the streaming platform this week, and fan speculation has been intense.
The first season introduces a large cast of characters living within the afterlife, pits them against each other with musical numbers about their clashes, and establishes tense rivalries and angsty, affectionate connections that drive fan obsession.
The fandom's stated hopes for season 2 differ greatly, but certain themes emerge over and over: Will Angel Dust escape his tormentor? Might we learn more about the mysterious "deal" affecting Alastor the Radio Demon? Will [favorite character] and [other character] finally get together?
"Obviously, I don't make the show with fan service as the main goal," the showrunner stated earlier this year. "But I believe that me being a devotee of the series means there's a lot of it just inherently. I also want to see these things, and I hope some of these things to happen, and obviously some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
She reveals her big-picture plan is for a five-season run of Hazbin Hotel. Seasons 3 and 4 have received approval by Prime Video and A24, which finance the series.
That might mean viewers have to wait years for some of the major resolutions — but they could be shocked at how fast season 2 progresses, and how many of what they're anticipating unfolds now.
"I believe people are going to get a lot out of it," she adds. "There are several debut moments. I think we get some really amazing disclosures, some really cool backstories, and even just simple things, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] We're going to hear much more singing from the previously silent cast members."
She's certainly aware of the theories and desires about season 2 — particularly in the form of audience prediction charts.
"I've seen a few fans create a prediction grid about season 2," she says. "Naturally I can't post it, but I've actually done some of them, and nearly every one of them have almost a bingo. I thought, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that makes me think we do a lot [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I realized, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that makes me happy."
Hazbin Hotel the second season launches on Prime Video on October 29.
